30 million years ago Mother Nature worked her magic and began to form some of the most incredible and beautiful caves the Waikato has to offer. Join Raglan Rock’s family caving adventure exploring this natural underground wonderland! This is a real cave tour, so expect to get a little (or a lot) wet and muddy, but worry not, Raglan Rock will provide all the correct clothing and equipment to make your adventure fun and most importantly safe!
Karamu cave is a treasure trove of delicate and prehistoric formations; stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, and crystals, as well as showcasing many fossils, from cockles to kina shells! But everyone knows the true reason people love to cave in Aotearoa, Glow worms! Luckily for us, Karamu cave has vast areas, to gaze and admire these incredible creatures, and at one point, all whilst enjoying a nice hot cup of Kawakawa tea!
With a variety of challenges, there is a route for everyone! Don’t fancy crawling through the stream, then you don’t have too! Fancy challenging yourself through a tight squeeze, then follow your experienced guide into the most exciting of squeezes and wriggles! Be sure to listen to your knowledgeable guide about the geology and formation of the cave, as well as the stories and history that come with the Karamu Cave!
