Experience the entire Remutaka Incline from Kaitoke to the Wairarapa, then take a shuttle back to the start. Start anytime between 10am and 12pm (though the earlier you start, the more time you’ll have on the trail), then bike through to Featherston 2.15pm (returns approx 2.45).
Simply make your way to the Wildfinder base at the Kaitoke carpark (it’s about a 45 minute drive from Wellington). The team there will set you up with capable and comfortable electric mountain bikes, then give you a quick briefing on what to expect for the day. You’ll start your adventure with a very gradual incline through beautiful native bush. Pass through tunnels (headlights provided!) and over bridges, while checking out information boards detailing the enormous task of constructing the old fell railway system. Reach the summit – a large grassy plateau perfect for a picnic or cold drink – then enjoy a fun (but easily controllable!) descent to Cross Creek. From here, you’ll follow a quiet road (on a separate cycle path) as you head north 10km through Wairarapa farmland to the cafes and pubs at Featherston. Wildfinder will pick you up at 2:15pm before driving you back to Kaitoke.
The bikes are purchased specifically for local trail conditions, and only use modern electric mountain bikes, complete with comfy gel seats, front suspension, and quality components. All bikes are then customised to rider height and preferences. In short, your equipment won’t let you down.
